Your car engine normally operates between 190°F and 220°F. This is caused by the temperature of the exhaust gas in your vehicle which is typically 500°F, but can be as much as 1500° Farenheit. Ideally, this heat should be expelled from your engine to the outside air via the exhaust system. Normal stock engines lose some of that heat in the engine through the exhaust headers, causing the surrounding engine components to heat up.
Ceramic exhaust coatings insulate that heat throughout the exhaust system, making sure it escapes through the exhaust pipe. In fact, ceramic exhaust coatings can reduce the surrounding heat to the rest of the engine by about 65%.
Because the neighboring engine parts are protected from escaped heat from the exhaust manifold, the life of the parts is extended. Extreme heat contributes to parts damage, corrosion, and thermal oxidation.
These special high-heat ceramic coatings are designed to withstand high temperatures. There are different exhaust coatings for different needs, but most of these coatings can withstand somewhere between 1250°F and 1800°F, depending on the formulation. These exhaust coatings are engineered to not degrade or lose color under extreme heat.
Exhaust coatings also help keep your vehicle operating properly. Catalytic converters and exhaust systems rely on the heat from the exhaust cylinders to operate properly. Because ceramic is naturally heat-resistant, less heat escapes from the exhaust headers, and the heat in the exhaust gases is retained while it moves through the system.
